Unit block in Sydney's west in lockdown

Police are at the scene of a unit block in Sydney's west this morning under instructions to keep all residents inside amid fears of a coronavirus outbreak.

It's understood the complex in Blacktown is now in the hands of NSW Health after multiple positive COVID-19 tests from those living there.

Overnight, a police van was seen parked outside the building and residents were stopped from leaving.

But it remains unclear whether the unit block is in full lockdown with more details expected later this morning.

There are 93 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Blacktown.

It comes days after Blacktown was listed as one of the five problematic LGAs where COVID-19 cases are growing, with all workers now banned from leaving the area unless they are deemed essential.

It joins Cumberland, Fairfield, Liverpool and the Canterbury-Bankstown LGAs under the tightened rules.

Late last night NSW Health updated its venues of concern with a shopping strip in Sydney's south-west a new exposure site.

Supermarket workers in the parts of Sydney hit worst by the coronavirus will get priority vaccine access, amid ongoing concerns over transmission in the essential shops.

In a simultaneous push to get more residents jabbed in the COVID-19 epicentre of south-west Sydney, walk-in vaccinations are now being offered in some suburbs, and several pharmacies are involved in a distribution pilot program.
