South Australia border restrictions could lift from today

South Australia is expected to re-open its border to the Northern Territory and Western Australia from today.

The state's Transition Committee will meet today to discuss lifting border restrictions for other parts of the country that appear to be getting on top of local infection rates.

Officials are also looking at allowing some areas of Queensland in, excluding Brisbane and Moreton Bay areas recently considered coronavirus hotspots.

South Australia has already lifted border restrictions on Victoria, with the state recording five consecutive days of no new local cases of COVID-19.

New South Wales residents will remain locked out of South Australia with yesterday's local cases coming in at 27 and a surge in numbers expected in coming days.

Queensland recorded just one new local case of coronavirus yesterday.
