Queensland warns of border closure 'considerations' as state records zero local cases

Queensland has recorded five new cases of COVID in the past 24 hours, with all of them being acquired overseas and currently in hotel quarantine.

But despite the promising situation for the state, there are concerns about its southern border with New South Wales after it recorded 97 local cases today.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles said the State Government is still watching Sydney's growing cases closely.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles said the State Government is still watching Sydney's growing cases closely. The doughnut day for Queensland comes as concerns continue to rise about its southern border with New South Wales after it recorded 97 local cases today.

"While the cases are confined to the lockdown area, we don't need to put restrictions in place because the Sydney restrictions do their job," Mr Miles said.

"If we started seeing concerning sewage test results, well, that would be one consideration, particularly if they were outside of the (Sydney) lockdown area."

"The border bubble served us well; I think we learned a lot about how to put those restrictions in place last year."

Mr Miles also commented on the Federal Government's announcement for Commonwealth support for New South Wales following Victorian Premier Dan Andrews accusing there being a "double standard".

"We'd obviously always welcome consideration from the Commonwealth given the Queensland businesses that have been impacted," Mr Miles said.

"I think it's somewhat understandable that Scott Morrison feels a bit more responsible for the Sydney outbreak given he urged the premier to delay the lockdown there."
