Restrictions to remain in parts of Queensland

Restrictions will remain for another week in 11 Queensland local government areas after three new local COVID-19 cases were detected.

One is a 12-year-old boy who flew to Brisbane on Friday July 9 after completing quarantine in Sydney.

A parent of the child has also tested positive.

The third local case is a fully vaccinated international airport worker.

A further two cases were reported in overseas travellers in hotel quarantine.

As a result, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says restrictions will remain for 11 LGAs for another week.

Brisbane City Council, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley and Scenic Rim were previously due to have restrictions on mask-wearing, gatherings and visitors to hospitals and aged care facilities lifted tomorrow.

"We were looking at easing our restrictions from 6am tomorrow, now, I am sorry to say that because of those new cases and the fact that we need to get our contact tracers on top of those cases, we are going to ask those 11 local government areas and all those living in those areas to continue wearing masks for another week," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"That is to avoid a lockdown - we want to make sure that we keep everybody safe.

"So, another week of wearing masks, but it is the right thing to do."

Townsville restrictions will still be lifted from 6am tomorrow as planned.

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young also urged Queenslanders to reconsider travelling to Victoria after ten cases were recorded in Melbourne.

The cases are linked to a family who breached quarantine rules and infected Sydney removalists who failed to wear masks while on the job.

Victoria is not currently listed as a declared COVID-19 hotspot.

New South Wales has recorded 65 cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
