A person has died after a fire engulfed a unit Newcastle's, in NSW's Hunter region, early this morning.
Just after 5am, emergency services were called to Fullerton Street, Stockton, following reports of a unit fire.
The blaze was extinguished by crews from Fire and Rescue NSW before police were able search the building.

Officers found a body which is yet to be formally identified.
Police have established a crime scene and an investigation is underway.
