Tough new restrictions in Sydney, NSW as cluster grows

Sydney and New South Wales will have a more stringent coronavirus lockdown, with 10 new cases of community transmission reported in the 24 hours to 8pm last night and a ramping up of tough new restrictions imposed from this afternoon.

A further 13 new cases were diagnosed after the 24-hour cut off, which will be included in tomorrow's official numbers.

Here's what we know about the new restrictions.

What areas are affected?

Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Shellharbour.

When do new restrictions apply?

From 4pm today.

What are the new restrictions?

  • No more than five visitors to any household including children
  • People must wear masks in public settings
  • People must wear masks at work
  • Hospitality venues will remain open but there is no standing
  • No singing or dancing at any venues except for weddings
  • No more than 20 people on the dance floor at a wedding
  • One person per four square metres, which will affect numbers at funerals and weddings
  • A recommendation of 50 per cent capacity at sports stadiums and venues
  • People must wear masks at stadiums
  • Gym classes limited to 20 but you must wear a mask
  • Green dot seating plan is back in effect on public transport
  • If you live or work in the seven LGAs you must not leave metropolitan Sydney except for essential travel reasons
