Streets locked down as siege underway in Newcastle

A police operation is underway in Newcastle with a number of streets near the city's CBD in lockdown.

Police have blocked off a number of residential streets in and around Park Avenue in the Kotara area.

People have been advised to avoid the area and residents are being told to stay inside.
