A Canberra resident has told how he left his Lotto tickets lying in a drawer for three months before he got around to checking if he had actually won anything.
It turned out he had – a cool $1.6 million.
The man bought the lucky ticket at a petrol station in Hume, and ended up being one of four winning entries in the October 24 draw.
He said he was in an utter state of disbelief when he finally found out about his windfall.
"I've been playing Lotto for about 10 years, and I don't check my tickets all the time. I only check them every three months or so," he told The Lott.
"I finally got around to checking my ticket and I couldn't believe it.
"It's crazy to think that $1.6 million has been sitting in that drawer for months...I wish I had of checked the ticket sooner.
"For the past 10 years I have been dreaming of what this day would be like, and suddenly it has arrived, and I am speechless.
"It was crazy. It was amazing. I can't describe the feeling. It felt so good."
The man said he planned to pay off his mortgage and take care his family with the winnings.
But he didn't plan on giving up work anytime soon.
"I'll definitely keep working and think of how to invest the rest," he said.
