McDonald's worker tests positive to coronavirus in Melbourne

A McDonald's restaurant in Melbourne's north has shut down after a worker tested positive to coronavirus.

The Mill Park outlet has closed for deep cleaning, but is expected to reopen later today.

The employee, who was a confirmed case linked to St Monica's College in Epping, remains in self-isolation at home.

The Wollert outbreak – known as the St Monica's College cluster – has been linked to a social gathering, with a total of five coronavirus infections.

Staff who came into close contact with the infected worker have been placed into self-isolation.

"The individual is currently self-isolating at home and all potential workplace close contacts have been instructed not to return to work for 14 days," a McDonald's Australia spokesperson said.

"The health and safety of our people and our customers is our priority. The restaurant has closed for a deep clean by an external contractor, and should reopen later this morning.

"McDonald's Australia uses high-grade cleaning products throughout the strict cleaning, quality control and hygiene procedures that are adhered to in every shift at each of our restaurants."

Mill Park McDonalds has closed after a positive COVID-19 test.

A notice to staff, seen by 9News, stated the outlet had conducted an extensive review process to notify all employees and close contacts.

"When we were informed today we immediately reviewed which crew/managers had been in close contact with this employee over the last 14 days," it read.

"We have contacted these employees personally and have directed them to self-isolate. They are not working in the restaurant.

"We have attempted to contact all employees even if you were not identified as a close contact with this employee."

The diagnosis comes after 12 McDonald's restaurants were forced to shut temporarily last month, when a delivery driver tested positive for coronavirus.

The driver, who worked for an external service provider, delivered to all 12 outlets in Melbourne's north-west and interacted with "a small number" of employees, McDonald's Australia previously said in a statement.

Employees also tested positive to COVID-19 at Craigieburn and Fawkner McDonald's restaurants last month.
