All staff and volunteers at schools and childcare centres in Queensland will need to be fully vaccinated, under new rules.
The staff and volunteers will need to receive their first dose by December 17, and their second dose by January 23.
Those with an appropriate medical exemption will not have to get vaccinated, Queensland Education Minister Grace Grace said.
LIVE UPDATES: Quarantine-free travel to Queensland unchanged
"We take the health of children in our care very seriously indeed," Ms Grace said.
"We have a responsibility to protect the more than 500,000 children under 12 in Queensland schools, and even more in early childhood centres, who can't yet get vaccinated."
The rule will bring Queensland in line with every other mainland state and territory.
It will apply to both public and private schools and early childhood centres.
"We have a responsibility to parents and carers who want to know their children are in safe environments," Ms Grace said.
"This action is in the best interests of our children, young people, and our staff, and will help keep our schools and early childhood centres open."

There were two returned travellers who have tested positive to the virus but are both in hotel quarantine.

Quarantine-free travel
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says quarantine free interstate travel for the fully vaccinated remains unchanged despite the arrival of the Omicron COVID-19 variant in Australia.
"If there's one thing we can predict about coronavirus it is its unpredictability," she said.
"Four days ago, Delta was our biggest concern. Now we face the uncertainty of an unknown enemy in Omicron.
"While there is much unknown about this variant, its very existence has prompted a strong global response.
"Our plans to allow quarantine free interstate travel for fully vaccinated people has not been affected."
She said Queensland is "in such a strong position" because the state still requires 14 days hotel quarantine for international arrivals.
"Our cautious and measured approach means anyone who has recently arrived from countries where (Omicron) is circulating is already in hotel quarantine in Queensland," she said.
