Former brother accused of sexually abusing boys at Sydney schools

A former religious brother has been charged over the alleged sexual abuse of a number of former students at schools across Sydney in the 1970s and 1980s.

The 71-year-old man was arrested at Taree Police station, on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, yesterday afternoon and he is due to face Forster Local Court today over the charges.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually abused six male students – then aged between 12 and 14 – while they were in his care as a brother and teacher between 1973 and 1985.

The State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad began investigating the case in March after received information relating to multiple allegations of sexual abuse relating to the former brother.

The man is facing seven counts of indecently assaulting boys, sexual assault without consent, having sexual intercourse with a person aged under 16, assaulting and committing an act of indecency on a boy under 16, procuring an indecent act with a male and an indecent act with a person under 16.
