Victoria records two new local cases of COVID-19

Victoria has recorded two new local cases of coronavirus overnight.

The cases are primary close contacts of existing cases, with no community exposure during their infectious period.

Nearly 17,000 people were tested yesterday following calls from health authorities for more people to come forward after a dip in numbers.

The Department of Health yesterday confirmed they have established "initial connections" between the mystery infection found in a City of Melbourne man and existing outbreaks.

The number of active primary close contacts in isolation has fallen below 2000 and more than 6400 primary close contacts have been cleared.

Yesterday's new case was a primary close contact linked to the Arcare Maidstone outbreak - a non-resident - who had been in quarantine throughout their infectious period.

A number of new locations in Southbank have been added to Victoria's exposure site list, including Freshwater Place between June 9 and 11, Woolworths Melbourne Square on June 8 between 4pm and 5.30pm and McDonald's Freshwater Place on June 11 between 5pm and 5.30pm.

The sites have been marked as Tier Two exposure sites, requiring everyone who attended to get tested.

Restrictions are expected to ease again this week with the 25km travel rule set to be scrapped, allowing free movement between Melbourne and regional Victoria.
