Raft of restrictions set to ease as Victoria records zero local cases

Victoria has recorded another day of zero local cases of coronavirus as the state prepares for another major easing of restrictions.

Acting Premier James Merlino is expected to make an announcement on restrictions winding back today, with a raft of measures likely to be relaxed on Friday.

More visitors are expected to be permitted to homes. However, the mask mandate for indoor venues is set to remain.

The number of people allowed at hospitality venues, weddings and funerals are also set to expand to up to 300 people.

Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton flagged the major easing of measures yesterday.

"We're looking to do as much as we possibly can," he said.

"We will move as far as we possibly can."

Footy fans are also likely to be allowed back into Melbourne stadiums this weekend.

The Victorian Government is expected to announce outdoor stadiums will be restricted to 50 per cent capacity, capped at 25,000 fans.

This means the MCG will be permitted to be at 25 per cent capacity and Marvel Stadium at 43 per cent.

Under the rule, 15,000 fans will be allowed back into AAMI Park for the A-League decider on Sunday.

It comes as Victoria shut its border to a large chunk of Sydney overnight as the Bondi cluster grew to 21 cases yesterday.

Victoria's Department of Health now considers the City of Sydney, Waverley, Woollahra, Bayside, Canada Bay, Inner West and Randwick council areas to be red zones.

A red zone means non-Victorian residents who have been in the hotspot areas in the past two weeks are banned from entering the state.

Victorians returning home from the areas must get a red zone permit and quarantine at home for 14 days.
