The footage, released by Victoria Police as part of a public appeal to help track down the alleged offender, shows a 30-year-old woman walking along a Brunswick street, with a man following close behind her.
Police have been told the woman was walking south on Sydney Road, between Albert and Glenlyon roads, about 6.20am on February 7 at the time of the incident.

The woman crossed Sydney Road after noticing the man behind her, but he continued to follow her.
"As she crossed the road, the man sexually assaulted her before walking away on Merri Street," police allege in a statement.

He was wearing a red Nike hooded top with the slogan 'Just Do It' written on the front.
He is also seen wearing a light blue surgical mask.
Fawkner Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives are investigating the alleged sexual assault and have appealed to anyone who recognises the man to come forward.
Investigators have released images and CCTV of a man they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.
Anyone with information or any witnesses are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
