Man critical after falling from retaining wall, suffering serious head injuries

A man is in a critical condition after falling from a retaining wall in the Sydney beachside suburb of Coogee overnight.

The man in his early 40s suffered serious head injuries after the fall outside a unit block on Alison Road just after 8.10pm last night.

"A man believed to be aged in his early 40s was found with serious head injuries and was treated by NSW ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital," a NSW Police spokesperson told 9News.

The man is in a critical condition in the ICU in St Vincent's Hospital.

"Officers from Eastern Beaches Area Command are investigating the incident."

The fall is not being treated as suspicious "at this stage", NSW Police said.

The man is believed to still be in the intensive care unit at St Vincent's.

Coogee is one of Sydney's most popular beachside suburbs.

Alison Road stretches from Anzac Parade in Kensington, through Randwick, stopping a couple of blocks from the beach.
