Linda Reynolds released from Canberra hospital

Defence Minister Linda Reynolds has been released from hospital in Canberra.

Ms Reynolds was admitted to hospital on Wednesday on the advice of her cardiologist for a pre-existing medical condition.

It came as she faced intense scrutiny over her knowledge and actions surrounding the alleged rape of her former staffer Brittany Higgins.

Ms Higgins expressed her concern for Ms Reynolds in a Twitter post on Wednesday, sending well-wishes to the minister.

"I genuinely hope Linda Reynolds is okay and wish her all the best with her recovery," she said.

Ms Reynolds is expected to spend a couple of days recuperating in Canberra before flying home to Perth.

She isn't expected to return to a full schedule of ministerial duties until about March 15, 9News understands.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison yesterday said the Defence Minister's health had "much improved" since being admitted to hospital the day prior.

Ms Reynolds had been due to speak at the National Press Club on Wednesday but the appearance was cancelled after she was admitted to hospital.

Mr Morrison said the senator was looking forward to returning to her duties and "getting on with the job".

Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne is acting as Defence Minister until Ms Reynolds' return.
