The driver got out to ask for directions, leaving the car unlocked, keys in the ignition and the engine running.

Vaccines have been stolen in a car in Florida.

The driver worked for CDR Maguire, a contractor that had been providing vaccination scheduling and COVID-19 testing, according to a police incident report obtained by CNN affiliate WESH-TV.

Authorities have not said how many doses of the vaccine were inside the car. It is unclear whether the suspect knew there were vaccines in the car.

The vaccine was intended for distribution at the Plant City vaccination centre on the festival grounds, CNN affiliate WKMG reported.

The stolen vehicle is described as a 2018 grey Hyundai Accent with the Florida tag NPJJ58.

Police released surveillance video of a man they would like to question in connection with the theft.

Authorities are asking that anyone with information about the theft contact the Plant City Police Department.
