A random phone call has saved three fishermen stranded at sea overnight in Victoria's south-east after their boat capsized.
The trio clung to the hull of their upturned 4.5-metre boat off Port Welshpool, South Gippsland, for several hours without realising they had a mobile phone.
One of the fishermen's phones then started ringing in the early hours of the morning, which prompted them to call triple-zero for help, 9News understands.
The Police Air Wing found the trio to the west of Snake Island, about 7km South of Port Welshpool, just after 1am.
The men were then rescued by Port Welshpool Coast Guard before being taken to hospital.
Water Police will attend later today and retrieve the upturned vessel and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
