An investigation has been launched by NSW Police after one of its constables entered a man's hotel room in a Sydney quarantine hotel late last night.

"It's been reported that the constable, who is attached to a specialist command, entered the room of a man undergoing mandatory quarantine who had recently arrived on an international flight," the statement read.

"After leaving the man's room, the constable then remained at the hotel for a short time before returning to a police station to complete his shift."

The constable and one close contact have been directed to self-isolate at home and monitor for coronavirus symptoms.

They will also both be tested for COVID-19.

The male traveller, who had recently arrived in Sydney on an overseas flights, had returned a negative COVID-19 test prior to arriving in Australia.

He will remain in mandatory quarantine and undergo another COVID-19 test.

NSW Police said it had notified NSW Health and was working with them to ensure all close contacts are identified, isolated and tested.

The breach comes as six returned travellers tested positive for COVID-19 across Sydney's quarantine hotels today.

There were no new locally acquired coronavirus cases officially recorded, but one case overnight was found in a child who visited the trampoline centre in Prestons.
