Eight people including four children are believed to be onboard a sinking vessel near North West Island off the Capricorn Coast.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said it was believed a number of people were on board the vessel, with the first call for assistance made soon after 10 this morning.
An EPIRB was activated about 10.40am.
The RACQ rescue helicopter was tasked to the scene, about 175 kilometres north-east of Rockhampton.
Water police and the coast guard were also alerted to the incident.
A bulk carrier has since reached the vessel and the rescue helicopter has been called off.
