Queensland to lift border restrictions for ACT residents next Friday

Queensland will lift border restrictions on the ACT from 1am next Friday, September 25.

"That means that people from the ACT will again be able to visit Queensland," Deputy Premier Steven Miles announced this morning.

Mr Miles said the date aligned with the ACT school holidays and encouraged Canberrans to come to the Sunshine State.

"Now is the time and we urge them to start thinking to come up to Queensland for a holiday," he said.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young confirmed the decision meant that from next Friday, the ACT would no longer be considered a coronavirus hotspot.

Dr Young said anyone who had travelled from New South Wales into the ACT would still need to wait 14 days before they could travel to Queensland.

Mr Miles said Queensland officials would be working closely with the territory to ensure no one who had travelled to Victoria or NSW in the last 14 days would be allowed into Queensland.

Mr Miles said today marks the state's eighth day straight of no community transmission and no new cases of COVID-19 were recorded overnight.
