Former anti-Islamic State fighter Ashley Dyball has been sentenced to three years in jail for a "cruel and hideous cover up" after the murder of 22-year-old Samuel Thompson.
A jury yesterday found Dyball not guilty of murder and manslaughter but guilty of interfering with Mr Thompson's body after a trial.
Dyball, 28, assisted another man, Roberto Vincenzo Boscaino, by helping him move Mr Thompson's body, drove with him to the Beerburrum State Forest and helped him dig a shallow grave.
The Supreme Court heard Mr Thompson was murdered by Boscaino on March 7, 2017 at his Bald Hills home after a plan to rob the cannabis dealer.
A jury found Boscaino guilty of murder last year and he is serving life behind bars.
Dyball's sentencing hearing was told today the former labourer had offered to plead guilty to being an accessory after the fact to murder but that plea was rejected by the Crown.
Justice Martin Burns sentenced Dyball to three years' jail for the improper treatment of a corpse but because he's already been in jail for 1251 days, he will be released immediately.
Justice Burns said "he put the family through hell and he did that knowingly".

Bruce Thompson, Samuel's father, read a victim impact statement to the court referring to Dyball's decision not to come forward earlier.
"You chose not to and for that I hate you … you know what you have done and you have to live with those actions for the rest of your life," he said.
The court heard Dyball had written a letter of apology to Mr Thompson's family and admitted on reflection he should have gone to the police straight away.
Dyball also pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of possessing cocaine and received a three-month sentence for that.
