A 32-year-old spear fisherman has died after a drowning incident at a Gold Coast beach this morning.
The victim is believed to be a well-known sports figure.
Paramedics were called to Palm Beach following a drowning incident off 19th Avenue about 10.30am today.
Police said the experienced free diver was found unresponsive on the ocean floor. Lifeguards and paramedics performed CPR for 45 minutes but he could not be saved.
