The apprentice plumber allegedly stabbed to death in an apartment building in Melbourne's CBD has been identified.
Liam Cahill was believed to be celebrating a friend's birthday at an apartment on La Trobe Street on Saturday when he was allegedly attacked by a 22-year-old man.
Emergency services were called to the apartment building about 11pm on Saturday and found the body of Mr Cahill with stab wounds.
Tributes for Mr Cahill, an apprentice plumber, have flowed following his sudden death.
Macayla Dickson was among friends struggling to come to terms with Mr Cahill's death.
"He was the best person. Always had a laugh and was always the class clown and had his heart out for everyone," she told 9News.
Other people have posted tributes on social media to Mr Cahill.
"I will love you forever brother, I am going to miss you every day. Thank you for every single memory together," read one on Facebook.
A 22-year-old Williamstown man was arrested a short distance from the scene.
He will appear on the murder charge at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
