Queensland man and his dog rescued from floodwaters by police

A Queensland man and his dog have been rescued, and the man issued a fine, after driving through two-metre deep floodwaters.

The 23-year-old allegedly ignored prominent 'road closed,' and 'water over road,' signs, driving around them and into the floods before becoming stuck.

"The man tried to navigate his vehicle across more than 100 metres of water that was approximately two metres deep with a strong current," police said in a statement.

They added the man and his dog were lucky to be alive, after the ute was swept by the current and lodged between two trees.

The pair managed to escape the ute, waiting on the vehicle's roof before emergency services arrived.

Police found the man on Baralaba Woorabinda Road in Alberta, central Queensland around 4.30 pm.

"Motorists are reminded that knowingly driving through floodwaters is not only extremely dangerous but also an offence," police said.

"Every year, police and emergency services see Queensland drivers endanger their lives, and the lives of their loved ones, by taking unnecessary risks and attempting to drive through floodwaters."
