New South Wales' mask mandate could be extended beyond December 15 in a bid to prevent large COVID-19 outbreaks ahead of the Christmas period, according to reports.
Health authorities have suggested the indoor mask rule may be around for longer, particularly as retail stores are set to be busy over the next month.
Currently people in NSW are required to wear a mask indoors, with a few exceptions such as offices and exercise.

The extension would come despite the state expecting to reach 95 per cent double dose milestone by mid-December.
The NSW Government is yet to make a decision about easing the mask mandate.
A decision will likely be made over the next few days.
