Handcuffed man escapes police custody in South Australia

A man is on the run after he escaped police custody while in handcuffs overnight in South Australia.

Police will allege Simon Newchurch was under guard at Murrary Bridge Hospital, east of Adelaide, when he escaped just before 6.30pm yesterday.

Police said he was handcuffed to the front.

A search is currently underway, involving the dog squad and PolAir, with Mr Newchurch believed to still be in the Murray Bridge area.

The 29-year-old, from Narrung, is 180cm tall, with a medium build, blonde hair and grey eyes.

He was wearing a black top, black pants, and no shoes.

Anybody who sees him is urged not to approach him, but to call 131 444, or Triple Zero in an emergency.
