Further thunderstorms set to hit New South Wales's inland

Heavy rain is expected to continue for parts of Australia today.

Showers are forecast across the east of New South Wales, while thunderstorms are set to hit inland.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) said rain will start to ease gradually and become "patchy" later in the afternoon.

Wet rain weather Sydney

For Canberra the wet weather is likely to continue for the next week, with the BoM forecasting showers today and a possible thunderstorm on Saturday.

The rain is expected to ease slightly later this afternoon.

A minor flood warning was issued for the Avoca River in Victoria, while Melbourne is expected to receive rain in the afternoon.

Brisbane is still set to experience showers after severe thunderstorm warnings yesterday.

Temperatures are expected to reach 25C with rain forecast for the late morning and afternoon.

The BoM said Adelaide will have a mostly sunny day with temperatures set to hit 29C.

But that is likely to change on Saturday with a high chance of showers and a possible storm.

In Western Australia a fire weather warning is in place for the East Pilbara Coast, West Pilbara Coast and South Interior.

Hot and dry conditions are expected for the areas, along with possible showers and thunderstorms.

But Perth is expected to remain mostly clear.

In Tasmania lots of low cloud has been forecast over Bass Strait this morning, which is expected to move north later today with some showers developing.

Most showers are forecast to be around the Western Tiers and north east.

In the south its expected to stay fine and warm.

Hobart is set to reach a maximum of 21C.

Temperatures in Darwin are forecast to reach 35C with a chance of a thunderstorm.
