A man has died while saving a young boy after their kayak tipped on the NSW Central Coast.
9News understands the duo were father and son.
"It appears the man has heroically held the young boy above the water when they've tipped over, saving his life," Inspector Andrew Craig from NSW Ambulance said.
"Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of bystanders and paramedics, the man was unable to be revived."
"It was a very emotional scene and bystanders had done an excellent job in rendering first aid to the patient before paramedics arrived."
Paramedics were called to Gwandalan just before 5.30pm, responding to reports of a man being pulled from the water after falling from a kayak.

Four crews, including a specialist medical team, attended the scene but were unable to revive the man.
The young child was assessed by paramedics and was physically uninjured.
Inspector Craig said the tragedy serves as a reminder to others.
"With the warmer weather fast approaching it's a tragic reminder of how dangerous the water can be and how quickly things can change."
