Cup Day public holiday to be Melbourne's warmest in seven months

It's looking like Victoria will get a "beautiful" sunny day for the Cup Day public holiday, with Melbourne expected to experience its warmest weather in seven months.

Bureau of Meteorology's duty forecaster Miriam Bradbury says Tuesday is set to be "a very pleasant day" right across Victoria.

"It's looking like a beautiful day at this point," she said.

In great news for Melburnians hoping to have a getaway for the first time in months, with the barrier between regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne set to lift on Friday, the sun is forecast to shine all day.

Ms Bradbury said there was a chance of a little cloud in the late afternoon, but it would be higher level cloud that wouldn't impact the sun too much.

Melbourne is set to reach a top of 30 degrees, which would be the first time it has felt a temperature that high since the start of April.

Temperatures will reach the mid to high 20s in the southern areas of the state, while temperatures should push into the low 30s in northern areas.

However, the long weekend isn't set to start off as nicely.

Ms Bradbury said Victorians could expect it be "a little dreary" and breezy on Saturday, with some showers across the south.

But the weather is forecast to quickly improve with a milder Sunday, with more sunshine and a top of 21 degrees in Melbourne.

Sunny skies across the state are then expected for Monday, which will be "just a touch cooler" than Tuesday with a top of 25 degrees.
