NSW's roadmap explained: What you can and can't do

New South Wales residents will be able to travel freely and unvaccinated residents will be granted new freedoms under a new three-stage COVID-19 roadmap that hinges on increasing vaccination rates.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian signaled that once the state hits a double-dose vaccination rate of 80 per cent, residents will be able to travel freely throughout the state, and when the state hits 90 per cent fully vaccinated, those who are unvaccinated will be given more freedoms.

Here's everything we know about the way out of COVID-19 lockdowns in NSW:

LIVE UPDATES: Coronavirus death toll rises across Victoria and NSW

When will COVID-19 restrictions ease in NSW?

Restrictions will begin easing the Monday after the state hits a full vaccination rate of 70 per cent. At this stage, the NSW government anticipates this date to be October 11.

You can read a full explainer on the 70 per cent roadmap here.

It is expected the state will hit a vaccination rate of 80 per cent about a fortnight later, roughly around October 25. At this point more freedoms will be allowed, such as travel.

Then NSW will go to a "third stage" of opening on December, around five weeks after the state hits its 80 per cent double dose target. By then the government is hoping the double dose vaccination rate will hit or surpass 90 per cent.

In this third stage almost all restrictions will drop away and more freedoms will be offered to the unvaccinated.

What's new today? What new freedoms we will get when the vaccination hits 80 per cent?

Previously under the 70 per cent roadmap travel was allowed anywhere in the state.

From today, that has been pushed out to the Monday after NSW hits a rate of 80 per cent.

Residents of Greater Sydney will not be able to travel to meet their families in rural areas until the state hits a vaccination rate of 80 per cent, anticipated to be on October 11.

What about my family? Can I have more people in my home?

You can!

The Monday after the state hits 80 per cent, residents will be allowed to have 10 people visit their home.

What about pubs and restaurants, will the pubs open?

They will be open once the state hits a rate of 70 per cent.

At 80 per cent – expected to be October 11 – drinking while standing up in a pub will be allowed and all premises will operate at a capacity restriction of one person per every four-square metres.

You will no longer be stuck in an awkward conversation at the pub and can move freely away.

What about hairdressers?

At 80 per cent, customer caps will be removed for personal hairdressers in NSW.

Currently hairdressers will be restricted to a maximum of five customers (regardless of floor space) once the state hits 70 per cent.

What about weddings and funerals in NSW?

At 80 per cent (again, anticipated to be October 11), there will be no limit on the number of people allowed to attend weddings and funerals with one caveat: everyone present must be fully vaccinated.

This sounds great! What then happens on December 1?

On December 1 the state will progress to what Ms Berejiklian has described as a "third stage".

On this date, all venues – from pubs to restaurants, gyms and more – will move to a capacity restriction of one person for every two square metres.

Masks will also not be required indoors at offices.

Indoor pools and nightclubs can reopen.

What if I am unvaccinated? When will I get more freedoms?

If you are unvaccinated you will be given every freedom offered to those who are fully vaccinated on December 1. From this date, any COVID-19 restrictions will apply to all NSW residents regardless of their vaccination status.
