Cases grow in northern NSW town as Queensland watches fresh outbreak

Queenslanders are waiting to hear if the state's fresh COVID-19 outbreak has grown, with cases rising in a town just over the NSW border.

Northern NSW Health District tweeted that cases in the Northern Rivers town of Kyogle have grown from two to four.

An update from Queensland Health is due this morning.

Two new cases were linked to the Gold Coast yesterday- one in a vaccinated aviation worker who lives there and another a NSW truck driver who regularly commuted from New South Wales to Queensland.

He had as been infectious in the Gold Coast community for three days.

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said the Gold Coast suburbs he had visited were Mermaid Waters, Merrimac, Nerang, Surfers Paradise, Miami Beach, and Currumbin.

Mask rules were brought in, and restrictions on visiting aged care and hospitals announced.

A total of 60 new exposure sites for Queensland were revealed yesterday,.

This weekend's NRL Grand Final is still planned for Brisbane's Suncorp stadium.
