Third COVID-19 case in Victoria linked to family travelled from Sydney

Victoria's three new cases of coronavirus are family members who recently returned from Sydney on a red zone permit.

Two of the cases found in the family were announced yesterday and another family member in the household returned a positive test result overnight.

The family of four had been undertaking 14 days of quarantine inside their home in the City of Hume.

Speaking to 3AW today, Premier Daniel Andrews said the risk was minimal as the family had been in quarantine.

"We are very confident we have our arms around that," Mr Andrews said today.

"Those people have been in iso."

One of the family members who tested positive returned to Victoria by car on July 8.

The other members of the household flew home on July 4. They returned initial negative tests after arriving from Sydney.

Victoria's COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar said the family was not contagious while on the flight.

"If these individuals have returned a negative test result two days after getting off that plane they don't represent an infectious risk on that flight," he said.

"I'm very confident we've got controls in place, as we do with this family."
