Positive case at Wallabies Test, MCG exposure advice upgraded

A rugby fan attending the second Wallabies Test against France has tested positive to COVID-19 in a new exposure concern for Melbourne as the fallout from an AFL clash at the MCG continues to widen.

AAMI Park operators Melbourne & Olympic Parks confirmed on Thursday night it was working with the Health Department after a patron who attended the Tuesday night rugby Test tested positive to COVID-19.

"AAMI Park is closed and intensive cleaning of the venue is underway," the organisation said.

Meanwhile, all visitors to the Members' Reserve at the MCG during the Carlton and Geelong clash have been ordered to get tested and isolate.

The department confirmed transmission in the MCG members' area, prompting authorities on Thursday night to broaden their testing advice to include the whole Members' Reserve between 4pm and 8pm on Saturday.

The orders are even stricter for anyone who stopped at the Percy Beames Bar on level two. That's been classed as a Tier One exposure site from 4pm-4.30pm and 5.20pm-5.50pm, meaning anyone there at that time must undergo two weeks' quarantine regardless of their test result.

The constantly evolving list of new COVID-19 exposure sites can be seen here.

More than a dozen other exposure sites were also added to the Health Department website on Thursday night.

Earlier, the department confirmed Woolworths in Craigieburn, Edgewater Pharmacy in Maribyrnong and Sanctuary Lakes Hotel were among the latest Tier One exposure sites.

A positive case attended Persist Fitness in Werribee on July 12, 13 and 14, between 9.30am and 11am and an infected person visited QuickFit Health Club at Point Cook on July 13 between 9pm and 10.30pm.

Anyone who visited the sites must get tested and quarantine for 14 days.

Workers and shoppers have also been sent into isolation at two shopping centres.

On Wednesday night, the Department of Health added 11 stores in Bundoora's DFO Uni Hill to the list, following alerts for parts of Highpoint Shopping centre at Maribyrnong announced earlier in the day.

The entire DFO has also been listed as a Tier Two site for a two-hour period on Friday afternoon, forcing all shoppers to get tested and isolate until they get a negative test.

The DFO has become an exposure site.

The following stores at the DFO have been marked as Tier One sites on July 9:

  • Rivers between 5:10pm - 5:40pm
  • Adidas between 5:05pm - 5:35pm
  • Cotton On between 5pm - 5:30pm
  • yd between 4:50pm - 5:20pm
  • Under Armour between 4:40pm - 5:10pm
  • Nike between 4:30pm - 5:00pm
  • ASICS between 4:25pm - 4:55pm
  • Fila between 4:20pm - 4:50pm
  • Puma Australia between 4:20pm - 4:50pm
  • New Balance between 4:15pm - 4:45pm
  • Connor Clothing between 5:15pm - 6:00pm

Some players and coaches from a regional Victorian AFL and netball club have been sent into two weeks of quarantine after possible contact with a person with coronavirus.

The Barwon Heads Football and Netball Club was one of the latest venues to be added to the Department of Health's growing exposure site list late on Wednesday night.

More schools have shut as a result of the latest outbreak.

The Department of Health also advised anyone who was in Ariele Apartment building — except the commercial space below — at any time on Tuesday to get tested and isolate for 14 days regardless of the result.

A popular Melbourne pub and bar are some of the other locations added to Victoria's ever growing exposure site list following the seven most recent infections.

Highpoint Shopping Centre had been a place of concern before when Melbourne experienced another outbreak in May.

Yesterday thousands of Victorians were put on alert for COVID-19 symptoms after a positive case attended last weekend's AFL clash between Carlton and Geelong at the MCG.

The whole of the MCG is now listed as a Tier Three exposure site, with anyone who was at the Geelong-Carlton game between 4pm and 8pm on July 10 urged to be alert for symptoms and get tested immediately if any develop.

Any staff or patrons who were on level two of the MCC Members' Reserve at the time are now Tier Two contacts and must immediately get tested and isolate until receiving a negative result.

Some staff and patrons are being assessed as close contacts.

They are being contacted directly by the Department of Health and directed into 14-day isolation.
