Driver feared missing in floodwaters south of Perth

A search for a driver feared missing in WA floodwaters is set to resume today after his ute was found submerged in the state's Wheatbelt region.

Emergency crews say the Katanning man was on his way home from work yesterday morning when he ran into trouble on Ballagin Road, Piesseville just before midday.

Police and DFES officers started a search of the area after the 34-year-old's Mitsubishi ute was found but he was nowhere to be seen.

Police tried to contact the registered vehicle owner's landline but his family confirmed he had not yet returned home.

Another car and driver were also reported missing in the Piesseville area, but that person has made contact with police since the report was made.

The search was paused overnight with crews set to resume their operation at 7am local time.

Road closure signs are erected at several thoroughfares across Piesseville and surrounds after the area was hit with intense rains over the past week.

The wet weather is expected to continue today, with more than 48 millimetres of rain falling in the Wagin, Piesseville area yesterday.

While a severe weather warning for southern WA has been cancelled overnight, several roads in the Piesseville region are still flooded after the Buchanan River swelled in yesterday's downpour.

Emergency crews are reminding people to drive to the conditions, stay off the roads if possible and adhere to emergency warnings and closure signs in storm affected areas.
