South Australia expected to announce new local COVID-19 cases

South Australia is expected to become the latest state to record new locally-acquired COVID-19 cases amid reports of a returning miner testing positive.

It is believed the latest case is a miner who spent time at the Tanami mine site in the Northern Territory.

He was tested for COVID-19 on June 26 after returning to Adelaide.

The result was not positive, but the man has since developed symptoms while in isolation and four of his household contacts have now contracted COVID-19.

The case has sparked a 72-hour lockdown in Alice Springs.

It will be South Australia's first COVID-19 case in 200 days.

South Australia's Premier Steven Marshall is expected to give a press conference about the unfolding situation later this morning.

Currently South Australia is enduring mild COVID-19 restrictions, including mandatory mask wearing in all high-risk settings such as aged care homes and hospitals.
