Car drives wrong way down NSW motorway

A green Holden Commodore had to swiftly swerve out of the right lane on a NSW motorway after an SUV came barrelling towards it, driving the wrong way.

The video was recorded yesterday morning by a car travelling south between Newcastle and Sydney on the M1.

Posted on the M1 Pacific Motorway NSW traffic monitoring account on Twitter, the video shows the cars ahead brake and rapidly shift lanes as the Nissan 4WD surges ahead with its headlights on.

Coming down the right-hand lane is a car driving against the rest of the traffic, apparently making no effort to avoid other vehicles.

Nobody appears to be injured in the video.

Dangerous driving offences in NSW can net the driver jail time if convicted.

NSW Police said officers were aware of the video and were conducting inquiries.
