Melbourne boy charged with murder of teen after basketball stadium attack

A Melbourne boy has been charged with murder after a 17-year-old died from an alleged assault at a junior basketball game.

Bless Mulukwat Akoch, 17, suffered life-threatening injuries after a fight allegedly broke out at Eagle Stadium in Werribee on May 7 about 5.50pm.

The 17-year-old boy from Wyndham Vale was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Bless' devastated family earlier told 9News the teenager was "just a lovely, normal boy".

A Wyndham Vale teenager, who was released from custody after assisting police with their enquiries on Saturday, has now been charged with murder.

The 15-year-old was arrested in Wyndham Vale and will appear in a children's court this afternoon.
