Australian cricketers released from hotel quarantine after returning from India

Dozens of Australian cricketers and staff have this morning been released from hotel quarantine, two weeks after arriving home from India.

There were emotional reunions as players were greeted by family and loved ones as they exited their Sydney hotel.

"It's nice to have some fresh air, that's for sure," fast bowler Jason Behrendorff told reporters.

"It wasn't too bad, I tried to have a routine to make sure I was keeping myself busy and active, knowing we have some things coming up to prepare for."

Pat Cummins was greeted by his fiancee Becky Boston, the pair embracing for the first time in over a month after Australians playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) became stranded in the COVID-stricken country amid an explosion in case numbers.

David Warner's wife, Candice Warner, also posted to Instagram showing her husband hugging their three young children.

"It was a rough time and they're obviously going through a very tough time which is really sad to see ... but we're very relieved to be home," Behrendorff said.

"It's always tough being stuck somewhere and knowing we were able to come home was a relief and now we're out of quarantine I can't wait to get home and see my family."

The 38 players and officials went to the Maldives a fortnight ago following the suspension of the IPL.

Thousands of other Australians remain stranded in India, with the country's devastating third wave claiming the lives of at least three Australians.

India has now recorded more than 27 million cases and 300,000 deaths.
