Speeding driver's act of kindness after escaping fine

A speeding driver has paid back traffic cops in America who let them escape a speeding fine.

The driver was going almost 10km/h over the speed limit in the Tampa area of Florida, in February.

But instead of being slapped with a $324 ticket, the Sheriff, Motor Unit Deputy Kevin Baker let them off with a warning.

The traffic officer had a nice surprise after letting off a speeding driver with a warning.

Now the graceful driver has paid it back.

They sent a card containing a cheque for that exact amount to Deputy Baker.

The money was for a memorial fund for a sheriff's deputy who was killed in February.

Pinellas County Deputy Michael Magil, 30, a father of two, was killed earlier this year by an allegedly drunk driver while setting up a traffic checkpoint.

The note read: "Just wanted to say thank you for the warning on Tarpon Ave.

"I am mindful.

"Coffee or donuts seemed inadequate, therefore, please accept this check for Officer Magli fund, from neighbouring Pinellas County who died tragically serving."

The Sheriff's department called it an "incredible gesture" in a post on Facebook.

"To this citizen: thank you for this incredible gesture... not only have you put a big smile on the faces of #teamHCSO, but our brothers and sisters at Pinellas County Sheriff's Office as well.

"A hero remembered never dies."
