UK students miss out on $320m lotto win as payment didn't go through

A British couple should have been $320 million richer after their numbers came up on the Euromillions UK Millionaire Maker lottery.

But a glitch meant student Rachel Kennedy's payment didn't go through as she didn't have enough money in her bank account - meaning the couple missed out on the massive life-changing win.

Ms Kennedy, 19, said she had attempted to buy the ticket online but her payment didn't work, The Sun reported.

Rachel and Liam missed out on winning millions of dollars.

The students had played the same numbers for five weeks in a row.

Ms Kennedy even got an alert saying she had won and told her partner Liam McCrohan, 21, and mum the amazing news.

Mr McCrohan said he'd already started thinking about what he'd spend it on, including his "dream" house and car.

But when Ms Kennedy contacted lottery bosses, they told her the devastating news.

"I called the number thinking that I had won £182 million ($320 million) and they said 'yeah, you've got the right numbers but you didn't have the funds in your account for the payment of the ticket so it didn't actually go through,'" she told The Sun.

"I was on top of the world when I thought I had won but when I found out I hadn't, Liam was actually more upset than I was."

Mr McCrohan said he was "heartbroken".

He wrote on Twitter: "When your Mrs decides to not play the EuroMillions... and all 7 of her usual numbers come up £182m".

He also shared a shot showing the pair's previous ticket, with the same numbers.
