Christian Porter will keep seat under AEC redistribution

Attorney-General Christian Porter's seat has been spared from abolition, under a redistribution proposed by the Australian Electoral Commission.

The AEC is shifting the boundaries for several seats in Victoria and Western Australia, axing the WA electorate of Stirling, held by the Liberal Party's Vince Connelly.

That option was chosen over ditching Mr Porter's seat of Pearce, with voters in Stirling to be moved into neighbouring electorates.

In Victoria, an extra seat will be added and named Hawke, after the former Prime Minister.
