Coles launches 90-minute 'click and collect' service nationwide

Coles has unveiled its newest secret weapon: a 90-minute click and collect service that promises shoppers their groceries just an hour and a half after ordering online.

The benchmark program, believed to be the first of any retailer in Australia, will be available at more than 400 Coles supermarkets nationally and will be dubbed "Click&Collect Rapid".

Most importantly, customers will be able to choose from an extended range not normally offered for home delivery orders, including the ubiquitous hot roast chook.

There are stipulations: shoppers must spend at least $30, the order can only be for a maximum of 40 items, and a $5 fee applies for the order to be picked, packed and ready for collection between 2.30pm and 5pm.

Available collection windows are visible on Coles Online from 1pm.

James Geddes, Coles' Online Head of Network Development and Customer Delivery, said he expects the service to be popular among busy customers who don't have time to wander the aisles.

"Coles Online continues to grow in popularity and we're excited to launch this offer for customers who are looking for a convenient and affordable shopping experience," he said.

"The feedback from customers who used Click&Collect Rapid during our trial last year was overwhelmingly positive and it has proven particularly popular with customers who tend to have smaller baskets and shop more frequently as they can place their order during the day and collect it on the way home."

The 90-minute service excludes liquor, grab and go sushi, wraps, sandwiches and deli platters.

Mr Geddes said the service is aimed at last-minute grocery shopping for essential items.

"Whether it's meat and veggies for a last-minute dinner, pet food for your dog, or making sure you have fresh bread for school lunches for the following day, Click&Collect Rapid takes the stress out of running to the supermarket for forgotten items," Mr Geddes said.
