Woman attacked by shark in WA's southwest

A woman has been injured in a suspected shark attack while surfing at a beach in Western Australia's southwest.

Emergency crews were called to Gracetown Beach, in the Shire of Augusta - Margaret River, after reports a woman was attacked just after 10.30am.

The woman made her way back to shore and is being treated for an injury to her foot.

Surf Lifesaving WA confirmed a shark was sighted about 50 metres offshore and the beach has been closed as a precaution.

The Surf Life Saving WA Helicopter is continuing to monitor the area from the air and authorities are urging people to be cautious and obey beach closure advice.
