A teenage boy is fighting for his life in hospital after being found lying in the street with critical head injuries in Sydney's north-west overnight.
The 17-year-old was found in Kellyville at around 10.30pm after allegedly slipping under a car.
Police believe a group of people, driving a Holden Colorado, had arranged to buy vapes from the teen when a disagreement occurred.
"It looks like the 17-year-old has gone underneath the car and has been seriously injured," Detective Inspector Chris Laird said.
Detective Laird said police spoke to three people who were in the car at the time who were "very shocked" and are cooperating with the investigation.
Police are still looking for an 18-year-old, also in the car at the time.
"He knows who he is and he needs to come forward."
The victim was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
He is currently undergoing surgery and is in an unstable condition.
"We need to find out what's happened. This is a tragic incident which has occurred essentially over nothing," Mr Laid said.
"A young man has been seriously, seriously injured and we need members the community to help up piece this puzzle together."
A crime scene has been established and a canvass of the neighbourhood is underway.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
