Police question activist over 'sneaky run' across Queensland border

Queensland Police have questioned a conservative political activist who boasted about a "sneaky run" across the border on social media.

Former Australian Christian Lobby chief Lyle Shelton took to Twitter on Saturday evening, writing, "sneaky run across the border and back. Avoided the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus police".

Multiple Twitter users responded to the post and tagged official accounts, including Queensland Police Service, NSW Police Force, Queensland Health and NSW Health.

Last night, the official Queensland Police Service Twitter account responded by saying they were "aware of this tweet and making further enquiries".

Mr Shelton later took to Twitter again to reveal he had been spoken to by authorities.

"I was happy to speak with Queensland police today and explain my run along the coast from Coolangatta to the Tweed and back," he tweeted.

"There were no checkpoints for joggers, walkers or lizards. I have not visited a hotspot. There is a valid debate re: borders but I respect the role of our police."

Queenslanders who visit NSW must obtain a border pass to re-enter, with police now patrolling road checkpoints.

As of December 20, anyone who has been in the NSW hotspot of Greater Sydney cannot cross the border into Queensland without going into hotel quarantine.

There are currently no border restrictions for Victorians despite a recent number of new locally acquired cases in Melbourne.

Queensland's Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young is set to give another update on Queensland's border restrictions on Friday.
