Victoria Police are looking for witnesses after a man allegedly stole a car without realising a 70-year-old woman was inside.
The woman and her 70-year-old partner were on a routine newspaper delivery run in Melbourne's inner city last Thursday when the incident happened.
Police say a man jumped into the couple's silver Kia after her partner, who was driving, got out to deliver a paper on Abinger Road in Richmond about 7.10am.
The man drove a short distance before noticing the woman and apologising to her. He then allegedly dumped the vehicle and ran away through a nearby reserve.
The woman was not injured during the incident.
Investigators have released CCTV vision of a man who they believe will be able to assist with their enquiries.
The man is believed to be of Caucasian appearance, 30-40 years old, approximately 177cm tall with a medium build.
He was wearing a black cap, grey tracksuit pants and a grey long sleeve jacket.
