Residents of the Fraser Island community of Happy Valley have been told to prepare to leave as the bushfire burning on the island threatens the township.
The fire is currently burning just 3.5 kilometres from the small community, travelling southeast towards Yidney Lake, between Moon Point Road and Happy Valley Road.
Residents are being warning to be ready to leave at any moment, as the situation could deteriorate quickly.

The fresh warning comes as Queensland continues to swelter through a lengthy heatwave, with the temperature at nearby Hervey Bay sitting climbing to 30.6C just before midday.
A 'Watch and act' warning also remains in place for the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village after fire fighters managed to shift the fire front two kilometres away from the resort last week.
The rest of Fraser Island is at the lower level 'Advice' warning.
The Queensland Government has ordered a review into the response to the bushfire, which has been burning on the island north of Noosa for more than six weeks.
The blaze is believed to have been started by illegal campfire lit by tourists on October 14.
It's now burned through over 80,000 hectares - more than half the landmass of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed site.
