Jessica Dean reunited with her boyfriend William Miller after being apart for five-and-a-half months.

"I'm so excited, I'm smiling under this mask," she said.

"He moved to Sydney at the start of May for work and I last saw him in July and he's been there since, he hasn't been able to come home because of the lockdown."

When the border reopening date was announced, Mr Miller was quick to book one of the first flights back home.

The couple told 9News being separated by borders for 162 days was tough, but they now plan to make up for lost time.

"There were some tough times for sure," Mr Miller said.

The pair will celebrate six years together in December.
