A 19-year-old man was struck and killed by a car outside a Melbourne high school last night.
The man's sister was with him at the time and witnessed the fatal accident, Victoria police said in a statement.
The pair had been crossing Childs Road in the northern suburb of Lalor at about 7.30pm.
They had already crossed two lanes of traffic and the median strip on the road outside Lalor North College when the man was hit by a west-bound car.
Paramedics were unable to revive the man and he died at the scene.
The driver of the car, an 80-year-old Reservoir man, has been released pending further enquires, Victoria Police said.
Investigators believe that a number of cars stopped at the scene but left before providing their details.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for anyone who saw the accident to come forward.
